Bo Drake, Soho

These days, London is truly at the culinary crossroads of the world. So much so that some of the Boozybunch have almost eaten our way through the alphabet in the alphabet dining club where we started in a restaurant serving food from a country starting with the letter A, then B, C, D, etc

So perhaps, London does need a Korean/Mexican BBQ restaurant. The brainchild of a colourful pair of chefs, I think they and the media have settled on the term Korexican to describe their food at Bo Drake. By the way, Bo Drake is not related to Bo London

I walked past the restaurant before they opened and had to shine my phone torch to be able to read the menu. Unfortunately, this lack of illumination continued inside the restaurant and the staff didn’t take the hint about the lighting despite me using my torch to read the menu. The lack of light also makes for bad photos – sorry for that!

I started with KFC – Korean fried chicken wings, served with soy garlic, grapes and rosemary. They were nice and crunchy but not very meaty. The sauces were nice – could have done with more of those though I’m not sure why the grapes were there

I then had a half portion of smoked ribs. They were smoked over sweetchestnut wood and covered in sweet Asian sauce. The meat wasn’t fall over the bone tender but I enjoyed the chew as the meat had a robust flavour, which survived the sweet Asian sauce

Nice flavours  but my main gripe with Bo Drake is the same as the problem with the recent small plates revolution sweeping London – the portion sizes. My bill for these 2 dishes – there were no options to order a dish to include protein and veggie – came to just under £19 with tap water as drink and I had to stop off for more food on the way home
