Do you have someone that you really want to impress? Do they have a sweet tooth? Do you have a healthy bank balance or access to money you can borrow without endangering life or limb if you can’t ‘ahem repay’ it when the lender wants it repaid? If the answer to all the questions is yes, I have just the place for you.
Maitre Choux is the world’s first choux pastry specialist patisserie according to their website. Run by 3 Michelin star experienced chef Joakim Prat, their high end products are perfect.
A few years ago, just as the cupcake craze was starting to wane, I read in the food press that the next big mainstream dessert craze would be eclairs. That hasn’t quite come to pass but chef Prat is doing his best to fly the flag for this delightful French dessert.
The display at this South Kensington shop will make you drool. However, I have a confession to make. I’ve only ever bought one eclair from here – the Tresor a la Noisette, which is a high-end rendition of a Ferrero Rocher.
So, why have I only bought one eclair ever from here? My Chinese thrift gene just won’t let me spend £5 to £6 per eclair. My eclair was superb but in my world, I can’t pay that much for an eclair. Having railed against the £3 donut and cupcake, I can’t participate in this round of food price inflation.
They also make choux and chouqettes, round pastry creations as well as serve drinks. If you have a special occasion to celebrate, an eclair from here would be a very special treat
