So not a new kid on the block but certainly a favourite of mine. After a thoroughly disappointing dinner at Exmouth Market, we decided that ice cream was needed to cheer us up. And if you’re in Islington, there’s really only one choice, Udderlicious.
As they mention on their website, their ice creams and sorbets are all made in store and they use organic milk from British farms. They have a flavour of the month, literally, so you can go for that or opt for a tasting session as the Boozy Bunch crew did. I am always oddly embarrassed to ask to try a lot of flavours, maybe because I am hyper-conscious of a small business owner’s overheads. Note: this did not stop the rest of them. Spoons of joy!
But the charming staff at Udderlicious assured us we could try as many as liked and told Grant, ‘we’re open till 11pm!’. Bless their hearts! I imagine they pictured our eager little faces trying each and every flavour until we were lying on the floor in a dairy coma as they swept around our heads.
The group tried coconut and chocolate, strawberry cheesecake, Glenfiddich whiskey and dark chocolate and the monthly choice, Peach and Greek Yoghurt.
The group favourite was the dark chocolate and sea salt sorbet, which was so creamy and decadent that you’ll have trouble believing it’s sorbet at all!
I went for coconut and chocolate and hazelnut because I cannot resist the pull of those flavours. I accidentally went for a larger tub while everyone else cannily chose one scoop of two flavours. Oh well, accidents happen 😉
I’ve moved pretty close to Highbury and Islington station so decided to get a takeaway tub to bring home with me and selected my favourite, half chocolate peanut butter and half salted caramel. A tub is £5.95 so a bit more than you’ll pay for a brand in the grocery store but so much more special. It’s sitting at home in the freezer waiting for me right now… Brb!
If my boyfriend is reading this right now, hey look, they make ice cream cake. Imagine if one of these happened to wander into our house…
Udderlicious is a fantastic place to visit, their staff are charming and you will win huge bonus points if you bring a date here after dinner and woo them on the swing.
