I know Elephant & Castle is not an area many of us hang out often, but I always wanted to explore the container village there. It’s of the same design as the one at Brixton, but a little bit smaller. I’m a fan of the concept as it gives small businesses the opportunity to find a space in a popular area, without paying huge rents… I think. This one is called “The Artworks Elephant”.
There are many choices for food: the usual cupcake cafe (there always is one), also pizza, a coffee shop and a Greek eatery. I shunned all of them and went for some Vietnamese food. The place is called: Love Fresh Vietnamese…good start.
The menu is simple and delicious. For £6.50 you get a big bowl of either rice or vermicelli (cold) with salad and your choice of topping. Two sorts of meat or tofu. I went for the tofu option plus a veggie summer roll for £2.50. I love summer rolls!
Ohhh, it was great. The guy behind the till was careful to ask if I liked the ingredients of the salad and allowed me to say “no” to coriander. I still like Vietnamese…even though it’s full of coriander. Also he took away the fish sauce after finding out I do not like/eat fish. On first sight it looks like there was more rice than tofu, but it turns out not to be correct. The tofu was fried, the sauce was very tasty, but not overly spicy. Chili oil was on the table for anyone to spicy it up as much as necessary.
The summer roll was great. It had cucumber, chilis and sesame it it. Great combination.
The menu is basic. The shop is small, but cosy. Everything is available as takeaway. Please give this place a try when in Elephant & Castle…or when you are traveling through it.
