Dirty Burger: The name says it all

You know those times when you’ve been drinking. Like, say a lot. And you really need something to eat? And all you want is a really greasy, messy burger? Dirty Burger is definitely one of my go to places for when that happens. So the last time I went, I was kind of expecting a similar moment. I had been invited to a wine tasting event with a friend, and we were going to get four glasses of wine, and then we were going to get dinner somewhere. It started at 7 pm, so I was expecting to be done by 8 (possibly 8:30 at the latest), because how long does it take to talk about four glasses of wine? ANSWER: Three hours. I kid you not, they poured the last glass of wine at 9:45. We downed it and left because by now everything was closing and we needed something, stat! So we ended up grabbing an Uber to Dirty Burger in Holloway because we were starving and a burger sounded great!

The Dirty Burger in Islington is actually a Dirty Burger and Chicken Shop. I’ve never been to a Chicken Shop so I was tempted to get something chickeny, but I found out that the chicken there was only rotisserie, and I really just needed a burger, so that plan kind of flew out the window. I ended up getting the Dirty Bacon (because a burger really does need some sort of meat topping on it). Josy really wanted corn on the cob, and I really wanted the onion fries, so we ordered both of them and some crinkle cut fries as a compromise. The food did arrive very quickly, and the only condiments on the table were the two hot sauces to go with the chicken, so I asked for some mayo and ketchup to go with things as well.

Foodwise, it is what you expect: A dirty, greasy burger. Is it the best burger in London? Not by a long shot. Is it pretty decent when you want that sort of food? Yes, yes it is. The onion fries are one of my favorite onion ring type side in London. And we really didn’t need the chips because it was a lot of food. But hey, it wasn’t that expensive. And apparently I needed a condiment plate. I tried both the hot sauces, and the smoky sauce was best as the hot sauce was just heat with no actual other flavor. My least favorite kind of hot sauce.

All in all, the food is quick and it’s pretty decent. I wouldn’t go out of my way to come here, but if I need something to fill me up and I’m near a Dirty Burger, I’m sure I’ll stop in one again.
